Distributing your customised version of DeskAds
Your
customised version of DeskAds is delivered to you in executable format,
ready to be installed on your subscribers' computers. The installer
is included with the software, so all your subscribers have to do is
to click on an icon and they will automatically receive your graphical
advert, news or message every time that they start up their computers.
You
are requested to provide a copy of the DeskAds End
User Guide so that your clients will be able to read it before downloading
the software. You are encouraged to change the guide layout to match
your website, however be sure that the page that you create will deliver
the same information as our own guide does.
You
will need to distribute your customised version of DeskAds to your clients.
We advise you to do this by uploading the software on your web server
and putting a link to it somewhere on your website. In this way your
subscribers will be able to download your customised DeskAds to their
computers if they wish to install it. Another means of distribution
could be on CD or other disk format. e-mail distribution is discouraged
since your users would not like to receive large files, and their server
can block these type of attachments anyway. Use a link back to your
website again if you still wish to use e-mail promotion.
Uploading
your picture message
To
send your picture to your subscribers, you first have to prepare it.
Fortunately, in this case size does not matter, as all picture sizes
and amount of colours can be used. DeskAds is based on DeskDeco
technology, and will make sure that your picture will appear the same
on all computer screen resolutions. Even if your picture is not the
same shape of the screen, DeskAds will scale it proportionally to fit
the screen.
One
thing that you have to take into consideration is the picture format.
You have to save your picture in a format that DeskAds can read. The
accepted formats are: bitmap (.bmp) files, icon (.ico) files, cursor
(.cur) files, run-length encoded (.rle) files, metafile (.wmf) files,
enhanced metafiles (.emf), GIF (.gif) files, and JPEG (.jpg).
When
uploading, you should also take care to save the picture with the correct
name. DeskAds will be customised to go looking for your picture at a
particular web address. If you do not put your picture in the correct
place, DeskAds will not be able to update your users' desktop properly.
Special care must be taken if you have selected to add a time stamp
to your pictures. If you selected the date feature, you should add the
date as YYYYMMDD to your pictures' filenames. If you opted for the weekday
feature, you must add a number from 1 to 7 signifying the weekday, starting
from Sunday.
Notify
your users of their requirements
In
order to avoid misunderstandings with your subscribers, tell them how
you will be updating their computer desktop with your information before
giving them the software program. It is important to state that they
have to be using Microsoft Windows and that they need an internet connection.
Tell them that their computer will update their desktop upon startup
and may ask for an internet connection at that particular moment.
