Section
2 — Using SWFter
Upon
startup, SWFter will search through your computer for Shockwave Flash
files and brings up the results so that you can play the Flash movies
residing on your computer.

Program
Layout And Usage
The
layout of SWFter is made up of the file control panel at the top-left
of the screen, the file details top-right, and the output window covering
the rest of the SWFter screen. The file filter allows you to narrow
your search results both by name and by date, the file detailed view
lets you sort the results and select a file to view, while the output
window shows you the file you have selected and allows you to interact
with it.

Filtering The Search
Results
First and foremost,
SWFter displays only SWF files, so you will not be able to view any
other file types residing on your computer. However, you have the
option to narrow the search results by entering a filename or part
of it. There is no need to include the SWF extension in the filename.
To filter the results
by date also, use the following steps:
- Select to List Files
that are either older then or later than your desired date from the
drop-down list provided.
- Double click on the
button with the three dots(...) and select your desired date from
the calendar that pops up.
The file list on the
right will now be filtered with your selected options. If you want
to clear the date settings, click on the R button.
Sorting The Search
Results
Once you have some
files displayed in the search results, you can sort them by name,
size or date according to your needs. Sorting is done by clicking
on the header row (displayed with a gray background), with the left
mouse button to sort the files in ascending mode and the right mouse
button in descending.
The search result grid is automatically enlarged when moving the mouse pointer over it. You can then play the
Shockwave file that you want to view by double-clicking in its corresponding
row. The selected file will be automatically played in the output
window.

Interaction With The
Flash Movies
When opening Shockwave
files, you have some form of interaction available. The right mouse
button is used to bring up the settings menu. Furthermore, depending
on the file chosen you will also have interaction with the left mouse
button or the keyboard, for example when playing games.
File Handling Functions
SWFter has additional buttons that will let you handle your Shockwave Flash files on your computer. The first button, Copy, will allow you to copy the selected file to another location, handy if you have found a Flash movie that you particularly like. A dialog box will open to ask you the destination of the new filename.
Another function is the Delete button, used to delete files that you do not need on your computer anymore. You will be asked to confirm your decision before the relevant file is deleted once and for all.
